Moving to Leicester is an exciting experience! Some of you may have never been to Leicester, but we think you'll really like living here. 

If you're heading here to study,  here are some key highlights of the city.  Whether you want to be a tourist or just enjoy everything Leicester has to offer. 

The essentials

Supermarkets

Tesco Superstore 

You have a Tesco Super store right on your doorstep that will have everything you could ever need. 

Tesco Express 

Slightly closer, just a short distance through Bede Park, is a Tesco Express which you can pass on the way to your university lectures. 

Lidl 

Another option to top up groceries is Lidl.

The local store is just 5 metres away from our office.

Wang Fung Hong Oriental Supermarket 

Wang Fung Hong is an oriental food supermarket with an amazing selection of Asian groceries. Create all your favourite recipes with food from across the continent. 

Food and drink

Narborough Road 

Narborough Road is the street adjacent to CODE. It’s home to a range of grocery shops as well as some fantastic restaurants in a range of cuisines from Caribbean to Turkish. 

The Western & Cafe West 

Located next door to our office, this great pub has lots to choose from. Serving traditional English cuisine and great drinks, all at a reasonable price.  

Little Tokyo 

Just 5 minutes’ walk away on Braunstone Gate. Little Tokyo offers a range of authentic Japanese cuisine. 

Local shops that offer student discount 

We have the high cross in the centre of Leicester, with a wide host of shops inside that offer student discount.

Be a Tourist

Leicester Museum and Art Gallery 

Leicester Museum has a great Egyptian and dinosaur exhibition, it Is well worth checking out.

National Space Centre  

Those who love space or those who want to know more about it, should visit the space centre. The NASA artifacts and the huge rocket is impressive!

King Richard III 

Leicester has a huge amount of history, but King Richard III is the only monarch found under a car park!

A little further out of the city is Bradgate Park. Lady jane Grey, who was Queen for 9 days, was born at Bradgate house.

O2 Leicester

Since opening its doors in 2010, the O2 Academy has seen the likes of Arctic Monkeys and Adele grace its stage. With a capacity of around 1,500, it provides an intimate setting for music enthusiasts. It has become a go-to spot for both emerging and established artists in the heart of the city.

De Montfort Hall

Getting around Leicester

Majority of things you will need when moving to Leicester is right on your doorstep. However, if you want to travel by bus there are several different buses. 

  • Centre bus will take you around the city centre. 
  • Arriva travel will travel into the suburbs of Leicester, along with First Bus
  • You can also head to St Margaret’s Bus Station if you wish to travel out of Leicester.
