Get watching

The good news is a 32" TV is included in your room. Here's our guide on how to use it and for information about TV licensing.

TV Licences explained

You need to be covered by a TV Licence to watch or record programmes if you:

  • watch or record TV on any channel (e.g. ITV, 4, Dave, BBC Two, Sky One)
  • watch TV live on any streaming service (e.g. ITV Hub, Amazon Prime Video, Now, All 4, YouTube, Sky Go)
  • watch BBC iPlayer

This could be on any device, including a TV, desktop computer, laptop, mobile phone, tablet, games console, digital box or DVD/VHS recorder.

It’s illegal for anyone in CODE to do this without being covered by a TV Licence. If you break the law, you risk prosecution and a fine of up to £1,000 plus compensation

A standard TV Licence costs £169.50. You can pay all in one go, or you can spread the cost via Direct Debit. If you don’t need your licence for a full 12 months, you could apply for a refund.

If you think you don’t need a TV licence you should tell TV Licensing. More advice for students is available on the TV licence website.

Netflix, Amazon and other subscription services

You do not need a TV Licence to watch subscription services like Netflix, Amazon Prime or Now TV.
