In May 2026, the Government introduced new rules giving renters greater rights around keeping pets. While purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA), like ours, is exempt, we felt it was still the right time to rethink our approach. 

We know pets are part of the family, and we want CODE to feel like a true ‘home away from home’. That’s why residents can now request permission to keep a pet, with each request considered individually based on the animal, property and wider community. 

We’re also working with animal welfare organisations to make sure we’re getting this right, with clear criteria around suitable pets and advice for students on caring for an animal while at university.🐶🐱 

University is a big change, and having a much-loved pet around can bring comfort, companionship and a little bit of home. 

Because feeling at home should include the four-legged members of the family too. 

1. Get in touch
Email coventry@codestudents.co.uk with details about your pet, including their type, breed, age, size and how many animals you’d like to keep.

2. We’ll review your request
We’ll ask you a few questions and consider things like your pet, the size and layout of your room, the suitability of the building and the impact on other residents.

3. We’ll let you know
We’ll review your request and get back to you. If approved, you’ll need to follow our pet requirements. If your animal supports you with a disability or a long-term health condition, please tell us when you get in touch. We consider those requests differently, as a reasonable adjustment under the Equality Act, and our guide explains what we will need from you. Trained assistance dogs are always welcome.

We may not be able to approve every request if we feel the accommodation isn’t suitable or there are concerns around the health, safety or welfare of your pet or other residents.
