This is arguably Leicester's biggest student residential area, particularly for University of Leicester students.

The area has a diverse community and a wide range of places of worship. There are also plenty of cafés, restaurants and social spaces, making it a lively place for students.

But because it's highly desirable and close to the University of Leicester, rents can be higher than in some other student areas.

During term time, there are a lot of students living in shared houses, so some streets can become quite lively and parking can be a headache.

The biggest advantage of city-centre living is convenience. Students have shops, restaurants, cafés, entertainment, nightlife, and essential services all within easy walking distance.

From Leicester Market and Highcross shopping centre, to museums, cinemas and restaurants, students don't have to travel far to find something to do.

However, being close to bars, clubs, and restaurants, and late-night venues means the city centre can be considerably noisier, particularly at weekends.

Leicester City Council has also increased city-centre parking charges, making having a car far less attractive.

A major student area, and home to CODE student accommodation, this is particularly attractive for De Montfort University students and University of Leicester students wanting the best of both worlds.

It's close enough to enjoy the city centre, while offering a more residential neighbourhood feel. The city centre is within walking distance, with everything the city has to offer.

Narborough Road, one of Leicester's major shopping and residential streets, runs through the heart of this area. It's known for its huge variety of international shops, supermarkets, restaurants, and food options.

And CODE itself sits behind the River Soar and Bede Park, giving students a peaceful and more relaxing environment to come home to. Many rooms also benefit from views across the river and park.

One of Highfields' biggest advantages is its position between the University of Leicester and De Montfort University.

Highfields is one of Leicester's most multicultural neighbourhoods, with South Asian, Afro Caribbean, Eastern European, African and other communities. That means students can find a wide range of international food, supermarkets, places of worship, and cultural communities nearby.

Leicester City Council has identified Highfields as one of the neighbourhoods around the city centre with a relatively high concentration of reported antisocial behaviour.

There are also student discussions about feeling less comfortable walking around parts of Highfields at night. That doesn't mean the whole area is unsafe, but the reputation is something prospective students may want to consider.
