If you're travelling from another country to the UK, here are a few hints to make your arrival easier.

Arriving at CODE

What to do before you arrive at CODE

To keep everyone safe, and minimise you time in the office, please make sure you complete your 'to-do' list before you arrive. This includes:

  • Completing your Induction forms + Health and Safety module (coming soon) on your student portal
  • Adding a photograph to your student portal where your face can clearly be seen.
  • Upload a photo of your student ID to the My Documents section of your student portal. 

Arriving at CODE 

When arriving on site we will ask you to go to our offices. 

We will process your documentation as quickly as possible, we will then hand you your keys.

Right to rent

As part of your contract with CODE Student Accommodation, we wanted to let you know that you will need to prove your Right to Rent before you can move in. This is a legal requirement for renting in England.

Non-British/Non-Irish citizens

You can prove your Right to Rent to us but you must do so no more than 30 days before your move-in date.
You should provide:

  • A share code generated through your UKVI account
    For more information, including how to generate a share code, please visit the official GOV.UK guidance: Prove your Right to Rent in England.
    You should email this code to us at the email address below.
  • If you are unable to generate a share code, please contact us so we can discuss how to obtain copies of your original immigration documents.

Right of Abode in the UK

If you have the Right of Abode in the UK (this includes British citizens and some Commonwealth citizens), you can use a Certificate of Entitlement as proof. This may be:

  • A vignette (sticker) in your passport, or
  • A digital certificate in your UKVI account (you will need to generate a share code).

Opening a bank account

We advise you open a bank account in the UK to keep your money safe. You can then get a debit card to make contactless payments and/or and take cash out from a cash point (ATM).

There are many banks in the UK offering varying products and services. It is a good idea to do some research to find the right bank for you before you arrive in the UK. 

Register with a medical doctor

You should register with a medical doctor (GP/General Practitioner) as soon as possible, to ensure you can access healthcare if needed.

Coventry University has it's own Medical Centre, while the University of Warwick has a Health Centre.

Bedding and kitchen equipment

If you’re travelling from afar and need bedding and kitchen equipment, it’s important to note that local stores have limited stock available on arrivals weekend.

Water

British tap water is completely safe to drink straight from the tap. It is said to be one of the best water supplies in the world, and water quality is regularly monitored by an independent organisation called the Drinking Water Inspectorate to ensure our water is both clean and safe to drink.

Water in our city is classed as 'hard water' due to the high mineral content. Sometime this causes a cloudy appearance but it does not cause any health risks. However, some people like to improve the purity of their water with a water filter.
