Confirm your room condition

Why complete an inventory?

We want to make sure your room is in the best condition possible for your stay. It will have been thoroughly cleaned and any maintenance from the last tenant completed before you move in.

But you may spot the odd minor issue or snag - that’s why when you move in we ask that you complete an inventory to make sure we have a note that things weren't quite in tip top condition.

What to add to your inventory

You have 7 days to complete your inventory - please do to take pictures of anything that isn't perfect, that includes any scratches, stains, holes, or dirty paintwork.

Pay particular attention to:

  • the state of your appliances and mattress
  • checking beside the bed and under the desk
  • ensuring you have smaller items like a remote control for your TV
  • ensuring you have a rubber end to your doorstop
  • ensuring you have a soap dish in the bathroom

It is important you make notes of anything that does not look 100%. Even though this takes time, it will stop you getting charged for damaged/missing items at the end of your tenancy.

We have also taken images of your room before you moved in, so we can compare in the case of any disputes.

Our top tips on keeping your room nice

AVOID SCRATCHES ON YOUR HOB

Keeping your room in great condition will not only make it nicer to live in, but could help you avoid charges later on. Your hob has a glass-ceramic surface and can be damaged if not cared for.

Scratches can be one of the main issues. There are many reasons that can cause scratching so try to avoid the following:

  • The rough surface of the pots and pans and rough handling can cause scratches
  • Sliding the cookware across the surface or thumping heavy stuff on it can lead to scratches or chips
  • Sliding cookware across hot spills containing crystals of sugar or salt can cause scratches.
  • Using materials that are harder and heavier than the surface, like hard cast iron, can easily scratch the surface.
  • Using the hob as an extension of the countertop by cutting veggies and placing cups, saucers, stuff on it can lead to scratches

USE A MATTRESS PROTECTOR

It may seem a bit gross but your mattress is constantly exposed to bodily fluids, such as sweat, and oils from your hair and skin.

Stains can be hard to get rid of, so the best way to avoid them is to buy a mattress protector - we have ones available in the CODE office to buy.

Dark coloured sheets can also transfer dye to your mattress - so you might want to choose light colours as well as using that mattress protector.

BEWARE OF TACK AND ADHESIVE STRIPS

There are many brands of adhesive tacks and wall strips on the market, which claim not to damage paintwork or leave stains.

Some of these will do as they promise but it is your responsibility if they do damage the paintwork.

You may be better adding these to non-porous surfaces or just sticking to your pin board.
