Dos and dont's

Respect the rules and each other

At CODE we want you to have fun but there are a few things that are definitely not permitted, as outlined in the terms of your contract.

What's allowed

DOs

  • We do allow you to have guests on-site and to stay overnight and you don't need to let us know, but we ask this is for a maximum of two weeks at a time.
  • Get to know your neighbours - look out for our 'say hi' door hangers.
  • Please smoke outside but only where there is a cigarette bin.
  • Enjoy the CODE facilities and treat them nicely so others can appreciate them.
  • Help our security by showing your fob and/or ID when asked.

DON'Ts

  • It's not allowed to let others to occupy your room or sub-let if you are not there ... although guests and visitors are welcome!
  • Animals of any description are not allowed in your room (including fish!)
  • We don't allow candles & incense sticks
  • Deep fat fryers, chip pans or any similar equipment can't be used
  • Heaters, oil lamps or burners are not allowed
  • Smoking of any kind in your flat, including E-cigs and Vapes

PARKING

Permanent car parking is not available at CODE Coventry. The spaces outside of our building are not owned by CODE and you could be liable for parking tickets/fines if you leave your car there.

If you need to arrange car parking you will need to contact the university or Coventry City Council yourself, unfortunately, we can't help you with this.

For short-term/visitor parking, the Cox Street Car Park behind CODE is available for additional paid parking if needed.

ILLEGAL ACTIVITY

When it comes to illegal activity of any description, we have a zero-tolerance policy.

We work closely with the Universities and Police on this matter and will not hesitate to inform them if we become aware of such activities. We will not tolerate drugs of any kind at CODE; this includes both illegal and legal highs (psychoactive substances).

We regularly perform sniffer dog patrols throughout all blocks and if you are found to have drugs in your possession, both the Police and University will be informed.

NOISE LEVELS AND PARTIES

If you are planning on having a friend around to your flat, please do (being Covid safe of course) but also please consider your neighbour. You might not have any work to do, but they might be planning a night of revision.

Please do not forget that we have communal areas available for you to use, so feel free to use these spaces with your friends. You are allowed to socialise in your rooms, but noise levels must be kept to a minimum.

All we ask is that you are considerate toward others & look after yourselves or risk a £50 noise penalty charge.

SMOKING POLICY

When you come to move in, we ask you to sign a document to agree that you will not smoke within your flat or in any part of the building.

Smoking in your flat can cause damage to surfaces, walls and other items and can lead to a large amount of your deposit being deducted to pay for replacement items and redecoration. It’s also very unpleasant for your neighbours to have to live with and is a huge fire hazard!

BE A GOOD NEIGHBOUR

Please be aware of the needs of neighbours living in nearby streets. Many local residents have full-time jobs and/or young children and may be more affected by noise and disturbance.

We kindly ask you to follow these simple measures to help maintain good relations with neighbours:

  1. Keep noise to a minimum when walking along residential streets, especially when returning late at night
  2. Ensure you put rubbish from your room in the bins provided by CODE within the complex.
  3. Use a low volume setting or headphones if you want to listen to music after 11pm, especially if your room faces a residential street

REMEMBER THE CONSEQUENCES

Some rules may seem quite severe but there have been cases around the country where not following the rules has left to injury and death.

Please don’t take that chance. We all make mistakes, we fall asleep, or leave something on accidentally. Please eliminate the risk before it starts. We ask that you don’t have naked flames in the flat
