CREATE A BUDGET

Calculate your ingoings and outgoings. What is essential? What could you do without? The key to money management is to plan in advance – don’t get to the last week of the month surviving off pennies!

OPEN A STUDENT BANK ACCOUNT

The 'Save the Student' website has advice on the best student bank accounts, looking at a number of factors such as freebies and interest-free overdrafts.

APPS

There are many fantastic apps to keep track of your spending. Apps like Monzo keep track of your outgoings and breakdown your monthly spend. 

MONITOR YOUR ELECTRICITY USAGE

USE YOUR STUDENT CARD

As a student you will have access to loads of amazing deals. Many companies offer student discounts via apps like Student Beans or with a NUS TOTUM card,  so make sure to check before every purchase! With your TOTUM card, you can save a handy 10% on the Co-op store on the ground floor of the CODE building.

DON’T SPLASH OUT ON SOFTWARE

You can get access to free programmes as a student, including Microsoft Office 😊

MAKE USE OF OUR FACILITIES

Don’t fork out on a expensive gym memberships – make use of ours! 

ADULTING

Council Tax

Council Tax is not applicable to full-time students. Your university should have already informed the local council that you are a student but if you receive a letter in regards to paying council tax, please ask your university for an exemption certificate and forward this to the council, they can then update their records.

Free personal belongings cover

On a rare occasion, a tenant’s room could be affected by fire, flood or theft (where there is forced entry to the room), which may cause damage to personal items. 

CODE Student Accommodation will try to compensate tenants for items which are damaged in these instances, by providing Personal Belongings Care
